About Us

History

Originally named ‘Dairy Delicacies’, Gippsland Food and Wine was established in 1985 on a bare block on the Melbourne end of Yarragon Village, in a purpose built medium sized building.

History of the site states it was previously a Blacksmith and eventually became a service station and garage.

In the 30 years of its existence the building has had 5 extensions. During the first 10 years the old church was added to the block which is now “All Things Bright and  Beautiful”  and a purpose built bakery was added between the buildings. Offering the general public a travellers haven with quality food, gourmet delights, great coffee and conveniences.

When new owners took over in 1995, they extended the front of the building to include the 45 seat ‘Sunroom’ and enlarged the cheese delicatessen. Local jams, chutneys, sauces and preserves were also increased as was the cellar door. Adding to the buildings quaint charm and ambiance.

The business was sold once again in 2019, to the current owners Donna and Rueben Larsen. The focus for this young local family was to restore this historic buisiness and give it a new lease on life. Converting the delicatessen into a Gourmet Produce Gift Store by further increasing the local produce offerings, and turning it in to a foodie’s heaven, has been a passion for Donna; whom you can see darting around the store most days.

The most recent renovations have seen an expansion to the Takeaway counter, which now boasts an incredible array of housemade gourmet pies, gourmet Turkish rolls, and many other goodies, all made in-house. The Tearooms has also undergone a face lift with the relocation of the gorgeous Leadlight Window that greeted visitors upon entry into the tearooms (fun fact: this window was originally part of the old Yallorn Train Station). The addition of a gorgeous Cedar Front Counter (also originating from the old Yallorn Train Station) has opened up the entrance to the Tearoom and now offers visitors an incredible welcoming experience.
